Fruit trees: Imagining the future food court with VTT

Ideas, projects and practices that are active and already fruitful with learnings and impact.

Our collective member Andrea recently worked with VTT (the research and innovation institute from Finland) on a project exploring the future of the food court.

The project aimed to engage industry “pioneers”, specifically Chefs and restaurant owners wanting to do things differently and push the industry to become more sustainable. The goal of consulting them was to validate how realistic such a vision could be, and whether this vision makes sense with the path the industry is taking and their desires for the future.

New shoots: Poems from Waves

Emerging work that’s inspiring us, or that we are beginning to nurture

It was wonderful to connect with so many fellow changemakers at this year’s Waves Summit, which was held in Helsinki in early April.

Falay Transition Design collaborated with Waves to bring moments of playful serendipity alongside much needed rest and reflection throughout the summit. We’re still compiling our reflections, but in the time being we would love to share some of the poems generated through our collective poem writing activity in the venue:

Sitra are hosting a webinar in early May with special guest Phoebe Tickell. We at Falay are long-time fans of Phoebe’s work, and this talk will touch on the same topics that we are exploring in our current project with Sitra: Reimagining Good Life within Planetary Boundaries.

CreaTures Framework is published
Last month the long-awaited article for the Creatures Framework was published. With multiple direct involvements between our collective members, we have been following the incredible work of the CreaTures consortium very closely.

We are very keen to ideate some projects which build on the CreaTures’ work, further working with the power of creative practice for transformational futures. If you’re interested in collaborating with us, get in touch below!

Sunshine: A dose of energy, uplift and hope

Each newsletter we share something that’s given our community sunshine this past month - nurturing our hopefulness and balancing the doom and gloom of the world.

This month we’re sharing the Finnish documentary Havumetsän Lapset (currently in cinemas!). Whilst it’s certainly not all sunshine and rainbows, it is a very truthful and beautifully filmed documentary about forest activists and their relationships with forests in Finland.
