New shoots: Making the future visible

Emerging work that’s inspiring us, or that we are beginning to nurture

Pretty much all of our work at Falay Transition Design deals with the ambiguity of the future. Whether we’re working with collaborators to vision shared futures and pathways towards them, or we’re looking at our collective and the kind of future we’re building via the work we do, we’re often faced with some level of uncertainty and abstractness.

After all, how can we understand and experience something which doesn’t exist yet?

Making the future more visible and tangible is a core area of exploration in our collective. This month we’ve shared two blogs that grapple with this space - the first, a fascinating and inspiring conversation with Susa Eräranta from the City of Helsinki’s Climate Unit about the approaches they’re utilising to help citizens imagine the future. We’re very excited to be facilitating a workshop entitled “Rituals for Hospicing Our Dying System”, in collaboration with the Safer Climate Network at this year’s Sustainability Science Days / Sustainability Research + Innovation conference in June.

However, as a collective of individual entrepreneurs, who are volunteering this workshop and have no institutionally affiliated funding…

The workshop will facilitate collective imagination to create new rituals for hospicing our dying way of life and look for ways to provide palliative care for the things we need to let go of.

Waves Summit 2024
A reminder that we will be involved in the exciting programme for the Waves Forum for Changemakers 2024!

• Our founder Zeynep Falay von Flittner will join a panel discussing “What’s the role of art in the societal shift?”

• Members Erika and Saaramaria will host rest and resilience stations, alongside authentic relating in facilitated networking

• We will also create some moments of playful interaction throughout the two days.

Sunshine: A dose of energy, uplift and hope

This month, we’re looking in the mirror for our dose of sunshine! For the first time we managed to get all of our core collective members in one place for a celebratory dinner.

March 8th was International Women’s Day, and we celebrated by sending a thank you letter to all the women that are inspiring us and making important change in the world. They bring hope and sunshine to our collective, and so we share the thank you letter again with you in hope that they can do the same again.
