Fruit trees: Retreats as an intervention

Ideas, projects and practices that are active and already fruitful with learnings and impact.

In our work, whether through client projects, funded creative research or new initiatives, we are trying to disrupt the business-as-usual working paradigms that prioritise efficiency and productivity above all else.

For regenerative transformations to happen, we strongly believe that these ways of working must shift, slow down, and incorporate other forms of knowledge. In our Embodied Transition Design Retreats, we are exploring how to create a space that caters for this needed stillness.

Through a programme that combines somatic movement, regenerative practices and transition design approaches, we aim to cultivate inner space and reflectivity, before mapping and co-creating solutions that explore the wicked challenges of our times. Moving through these processes in a cyclical way, using our bodies, minds and hearts, we embrace the holistic and interconnected wisdom of our rational, emotional and intuitive selves.

New shoots: Welcoming new members from Ekata theatre

Emerging work that’s inspiring us, or that we are beginning to nurture

This month our collective grew by 2 as we welcomed in Erika and Saaramaria Kuittinen from Ekata theatre. Erika and Saaramaria’s expertise in performing arts and physical theatre brings new lens of creative practice to our collective that we’re excited to explore!

Recently, we have together submitted a proposal that combines an immersive theatre approach with navigating the polycrisis. We hope to be able to share more about this project soon, but in the meantime we highly recommend checking out Ekata’s website:

Ekata is a Helsinki-based theatre that produces physical theatre, education and cultural events. Their work centres around the Inner Development Goals principles which supports people in their capacity to be change agents.

During the Autumn, Ekata are running a number of free interventions for exploring the polycrisis through theatre. Find out more about them, and how to get involved here:

• Constructing meaning: Lab for sense-making (Once a month on Thursdays, next session October 26th)

• Kohtaavat kehot or ‘Encountering bodies’: physical theatre workshop with a focus on breathing (October 12th)

Inspired both by Ekata’s centering of the Inner Development Goals, alongside motivational conversations at Stockholm Impact Week, we have been looking for opportunities to learn from and draw on these principles in our collective work.

This week on October 11th and 12th, we’re excited to attend the IDG summit with a collective screening. Though our space is limited, we are able to invite a small number of people to join us - if you’re interested in collaborating to use the Inner Development Goals in your practice and would like to join us, drop us an email below.

Sunshine: A dose of energy, uplift and hope

Each newsletter we want to share something that has given our community some sunshine in the past month - nurturing our hopefulness and balancing the doom and gloom of the world.

This month, Savannah attended an imaginative futures event, held by the City of Helsinki’s Climate Unit. The event, “City of 2053” invited participants into a role-playing game that imagined a climate-negative future for Helsinki.

The insights collected through the project’s engagements will directly feed into futures and policy work in Helsinki around carbon negativity and neutrality. It’s truly inspiring to see the public sector embrace these creative citizen engagements and put collective imagination work and play to real use!
