Fruit trees: Falay Transition Design, one year on

Ideas, projects and practices that are active and already fruitful with learnings and impact.

At the beginning of January 2023, Falay Transition Design came together for the first time - masterminded by our founder Zeynep, but collectively inspired to create new ways of working towards regenerative futures. In these twelve months we have grown from an initial team of five into ten, and alongside our valued advisors and collaborators have formed many different constellations in how we work, collaborate and support each other.

So on our first birthday, we’re reflecting on what we have created and explored so far, and the crucial learnings we have made along the way. Read our blog below:

New shoots: Reimagining relationships with forests

Emerging work that’s inspiring us, or that we are beginning to nurture

With thanks to the Collective Imagination Practice Community we are delighted to be starting a new project exploring how we imagine our relationships with forests.

We’ll be asking how we can move towards more reciprocal, less extractive relationships with forests, and how co-creating new language, and understanding heritage, lore and lost terms might support a cultural shift towards this.

At the moment we’re deep into desktop research, but will soon be on the lookout for interviewees in Finland who have strong connections to forests, across a wide range of perspectives. If this describes you or somebody you know, we’d love to hear from you!

Sowing seeds: Imagining the projects and change the world needs

Kaikkien Helsinki
We’re excited to be involved in preliminary work with the Kaikkien Helsinki alliance! The alliance is a collection of organisations, communities and individuals across Helsinki, working together to defend Helsinki and make it a beautiful, healthy and fair place to live and work.

We will be signing the manifesto as a collective in the signing event on February 14th (on ystävänpäivä, or “friend’s day”). Read the manifesto below or follow the Kaikkien Helsinki instagram to find out more.

Sunshine: A dose of energy, uplift and hope

Each newsletter we want to share something that has given our community some sunshine in the past month - nurturing our hopefulness and balancing the doom and gloom of the world.

This month, we’re sharing Neol’s blog reflecting on their Inner Development Pause workshop at COP28, of which Zeynep was a facilitator. It’s inspiring to read how behind the disappointing COP headlines that make the news cycle, there are important conversations happening about systemic, regenerative change.
