Fruit trees: Homage and gratitude to Joanna Macy

Joanna Macy has been a great inspiration for our work, since the collective was founded back in 2023. Especially her work on Active Hope, and her spiral of The Work That Reconnects have been great teachings for staying with the world, facing our pain and acting from love. It was no surprise that Joanna Macy passed away at 96 years of age, however we have always seen her as a person who is there and her words and teachings continue to inspire me. It is a great loss, but we have a great body of work to continue to be held in this process. Joanna, we thank you and continue to feel your presence in your teachings, showing us how to become better ancestors.

We have been listening to “We Are The Great Turning” podcast, where Joanna already reflected on her death, with beauty, dignity and a soft strength I feel so moved by. This podcast series is created to be listened to in a group, and then to go through the bonus exercises. If you are interested in forming a circle to listen and share together, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

New shoots: The Futures We Create joins Espoo’s Future Stories Art Mobs this September!

We’re excited to announce that our workshop series The Futures We Create will be part of Espoo’s Future Stories Art Mobs this autumn!

These free, artist-led workshops invite participants to explore eco-emotions and imagine hopeful futures together through storytelling, guided imagination, and futures thinking.

Sun 21 Sep | 12:30–16:30

📍 Location: EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art

Workshops are open to all, no prior experience needed. Facilitated in English, with the possibility to contribute in any language.

Sowing seeds: Calling all collaborators and friends in Denmark!

Whilst many Falay members are based in Helsinki, we are actually a decentralised and international collective of practitioners - and with that, comes new opportunities for exciting collaborations! 

Savannah is a designer-research with a background in visual design and community engagement. She has a particular passion in designing imaginative and playful methods for fostering climate engagement and resilience. She’s an experienced facilitator, workshop designer and writer, and has been involved in many Falay projects spanning futures prototyping exploration, our language co-creation method, imagination practice for hopeful futures and transition design workshops.

🌊 WAVES 2025 Summit is here!

Over the next two days, many of us from Falay will be at WAVES 2025 in Hanasaari, Helsinki: an extraordinary gathering of systems change actors from around the world.

WAVES is not a traditional conference, but a living inquiry into the question: ✨Is there another way?

It’s possible to follow parts of the summit online, so even if you can’t be with us in person, you can still join the conversation and feel the energy of this collective exploration.

We’re humbled to be part of this unique experiment in care, complexity, and courage — and we can’t wait to share what emerges.

This month we also wanted to amplify the Freedom Flotilla, and the incredible work being done in its humanitarian struggle for hope on its mission to break Israel’s illegal siege of Gaza. We’ve been following the journey closely, and have found the global connection and solidarity of the movement incredibly inspiring.
