Fruit trees: Design as a tool for change

Ideas, projects and practices that are active and already fruitful with learnings and impact.

As a collective, we recognise the important role that design can play in advancing societal change. Collaboration, a plurality of voices and perspectives (including non-human ones 🐜), and a thorough understanding of the wider system we’re operating within is needed to create effective, sustainable interventions for change - and design/designers can play a part in bringing these all together.

We are working with organisations to guide them towards transformational change and organisational resilience, by harnessing these components.

New shoots: Our transition design toolbox

Emerging work that’s inspiring us, or that we are beginning to nurture

We’re excited to share our newly published Transition Design Toolbox, which hosts various transition design resources from our collective and individual collective members.

From Future and Impact Canvases to Playful tools and strategic methodologies, you can sign up to receive these resources for free or get in touch to arrange an expert workshop where we can guide you or your team through them.

These tools are built to apply diverse theories of change into practice and will help you to collaborate, imagine and facilitate your organisation’s sustainability journey. We’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback and experiences of using them!

Sowing seeds: Imagining and sharing the projects and change the world needs

1. Spaces available: Regenerative Futures Immersion
   Join us this September in Southern Finland for a transformative immersion for professionals and change-makers looking to take action and develop interventions for addressing complex, global, systemic challenges, in the context of their organisational impact. 2. Open call: Our Hopeful Climate Futures
   As a part of the Collective Imagination Practice Community, our collective members Andrea and Savannah will be hosting a ‘Huddle’ (a peer-to-peer learning journey) to reimagine realistically hopeful climate futures. The Huddle is online, free and has spaces for 10 participants - find out more and apply here.

3. Call for partners: Building the future the world needs, through the power of creative industries

This month, we want to share an inspirational event organised by Systems Change Finland and Design Activists for Regenerative Futures, where Sonder Collective members Adriana Santamaría and Elise Ford led a fascinating discussion around grappling with power and imagination in participatory design processes.
